What exactly is reablement care?
Reablement care is a type of short-term home care that may be required following a hospital stay or sickness.
Reablement care, also known as intermediate care, is a sort of short-term home care that may be required following a hospital stay, injury, or illness to allow you to regain your independence.
Some people may refer to reablement care as post-operative or post-surgical care, but these are less specific terminology because they do not indicate an end date, whereas reablement care is expressly focused at persons who will regain their independence following the period of care.
How does reablement care work?
Local carers will support you at home until you are able to return to work.
Reablement care often lasts two to six weeks and comprises of assistance in the home with chores that promote independence, such as mobility assistance.
Reablement care is typically provided by an integrated care team, which includes experts from across the NHS as well as the wider social care team. Homecare workers, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, and doctors may be included.
